Yaesu has been developing radio communications equipment since 1956, when it was founded by president Jun Hasegawa under the company name General Television Service. In 1964 the headquarters moved to the Yaesu district of Tokyo and the company name was subsequently changed to Yaesu Musen (Musen being Japanese for wireless).
The UK subsidiary of Yaesu Musen, Yaesu UK, was established in 1994. In 2000, the parent company changed it's name to Vertex Standard, however amateur radio products continue to be promoted under the Yaesu name.
